Presentation: What You Missed in Computer Science

Computer Science is a big part of web development and WordPress whether you know it or not! This talk will explain what Computer Science actually entails. You will see WordPress through the lens of someone with a Computer Science degree.

We will talk about ways to describe code performance using Big-Oh notation comparing different post meta and taxonomy queries. We will also discuss concurrency as it applies to WordPress, specifically data races and how they can occur while counting post views.

What do you want people to learn from your presentation?

You will learn some basics from Computer Science – what it is, Big-Oh notation, and basic principles of concurrency.

What attracted you to WordPress in the first place?

Ease of use.

What are you most looking forward to at WordCamp Toronto?

I’m looking forward to seeing Toronto for the first time.

Why did you decide to speak?

I want people to learn about Computer Science.

What is your favourite plugin or theme, and why?

WP-CLi because it’s incredibly useful.
